Connect AI to your inventory

Simple Inventory Management ships with a built-in Model Context Protocol (MCP) server, secured with OAuth. Connect it once and AI can read and update your live stock in plain language.

Before you start

  • A Simple Inventory Management account with at least one company and a few inventory items.
  • An AI client that supports custom (remote) connectors, such as Claude, Grok, OpenAI, or Gemini.
  • Your unique MCP endpoint URL (shown below).
Your MCP URL
https://simpleinventorymanagement.com/mcp

This is your account’s base URL with /mcp on the end. You’ll paste it into your AI client in step 2.

Connect in 4 steps

1

Sign in and prepare your data

Log in to Simple Inventory Management and confirm your inventory items live under the company you want AI to manage. AI will only ever see the company you authorize.

2

Add the connector in your AI client

In your AI client (Claude, Grok, OpenAI, Gemini), open Settings → Connectors (or “Add custom connector”) and paste your MCP URL:

https://simpleinventorymanagement.com/mcp
3

Authorize with OAuth

Your AI client redirects you to a secure sign-in page. Log in with your Simple Inventory Management credentials and approve access. No API keys to copy or paste. Authorization uses the OAuth 2.1 standard, and you can revoke it any time from your account.

4

Start chatting with your stock

Once connected, AI can answer questions and make changes against your real inventory. Try one of the prompts below.

What AI can do once connected

The connector exposes your inventory as a set of tools AI can call on your behalf:

  • Look up stock. Check quantities on hand, on order, in use or damaged for any item.
  • Find items. Search by name and surface what’s low or out of stock.
  • Update quantities. Record receipts, usage and adjustments in conversation.
  • Summarize. Ask for a rollup across locations or a reorder list.
Every action runs as you, scoped to the single company you authorized. See the security page for how access is isolated and how tokens work.

Example prompts

  • “Which items are below their warning level right now?”
  • “Add 24 units to the M4 bolts and tell me the new total.”
  • “Build me a reorder list for everything that’s critically low.”
  • “How many blue enclosures do we have across all locations?”

If you belong to more than one company

Users can belong to multiple companies. When you authorize AI, you’ll be asked to choose which company this connection manages. That choice is bound to the connection, so AI can only see and change that company’s inventory. To manage a different company, add a second connector and authorize it for that company.

Troubleshooting

AI says it can’t reach the connector

Double-check the URL ends in /mcp and that you’re signed in to Simple Inventory Management in the same browser when authorizing.

It connected, but sees the wrong company

Remove the connector and re-add it, then pick the correct company on the authorization screen.

I want to revoke access

Remove the connector in AI, or revoke the authorized application from your Simple Inventory Management account settings. Access stops immediately.
